carats.fyi and the Carats iOS app ("Carats") provide gemstone search, market data, and visual gem identification. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and how it is used.
Data We Collect
Analytics (Firebase Analytics)
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used. This collects:
- Anonymous device identifiers
- App interaction events (screens viewed, features used)
- Crash reports and performance metrics
- Device type, OS version, and app version
This data is aggregated, not linked to your identity, and is not used for tracking or advertising.
Camera and Photos
The Carats app uses your device camera to capture images of gemstones for identification. These images are sent to our server for visual search processing. We do not store, retain, or share the images you capture. Images are processed in memory and discarded immediately after returning results.
Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect personal information (name, email, phone number)
- We do not collect location data
- We do not use advertising identifiers or tracking pixels
- We do not sell or share data with third parties
- We do not serve ads
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Firebase Analytics (Google) — anonymous usage analytics. See Firebase Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics — website analytics for carats.fyi. See Google Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
Analytics data is retained according to Firebase and Google Analytics default retention periods. No personal data is stored on our servers.
Children's Privacy
Carats is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
